Generic Butamed Drug Interaction

Exercise carefulness when administering phenylbutazone with warfarin, phenytoin, sulfonamides, digoxin, glipizide, barbiturates, chlorpheniramine, rifampin, or diphenhydramine. Consult your veterinarian or pharmacist before using this medicine with any prescribed or non-prescribed medications, including minerals, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Generic Butamed Side Effects

Phenylbutazone may produce side effects such as kidney damage, ulcers, decreased white blood cells, bloody stool, and platelets over and above an allergic reaction (hives, facial swelling, and sudden onset of diarrhea, cold limbs, vomiting, seizures, shock, pale gums, and coma). Horses may also experience other adverse effects. Seek advice from your veterinarian about any adverse effect that seems strange or persists.

Precaution and Warning

Phenylbutazone should not be administered to pregnant or lactating mares. This treatment should be avoided with other corticosteroids, NSAIDs, or other ulcer-causing medicines. Phenylbutazone is not suggested for horses that are dehydrated or have anemia, stomach ulcers, bleeding disorders.
